t is very exciting to be joining the great team of agents in the Wildcat Extension District. It is the busy time of year for 4-H as we wrap up camp and kick off our county fairs.

As I am new to the district, I felt a quick introduction of myself is in order. I have been the Agriculture/4-H Extension Agent for almost 24 years in Wilson County. I have a B.S. in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University. I was a nine year 4-H member in Payne County, Oklahoma and loved every minute of it.

I have always felt 4-H is one of those organizations that you get out of it what you are willing to put into it. 4-H members in Wilson County have been putting in a lot over the past month. Our members went back to Rock Springs camp for the first time in 8 years, we had 11 kids and I think it is safe to say they had a great time, as most of them are already making plans for next year. 4-H members and I also joined in for the livestock judging camp in early July. Six members attended the camp and all reported that they learned a lot, not only about judging livestock and quiz bowl, but themselves. Some of these members have been judging for a while and they were truly excited with all they learned. Many of those same kids have also been attending meats judging practice and are definitely looking forward to learning more.

We have already kicked off fair activities. Foods judging was completed on July 17 and Clothing Judging and Public Style Review is also completed. 4-H members did a great job of making and modeling outfits. We also have several very talented young people in fiber arts. I took five members to the radio station to do PSA spots for the upcoming fair. I look forward to helping with other activities around the district and starting a new 4-H year as we finish up this one.

As the transition continues I still answer some agriculture questions, and have been sending questions to the other agent in the district. I look forward to all the new possibilities.
