Wild Voices Talk Vol 2 | Page 13

Sultan the horse is a mixed breed and is 9 years old based in Europe. He seemed to have some problems with allergies (often called sweet itch) and his owner wanted to find out more information from his perspective. The owner also wanted to find out whether Sultan was happy and what they could do to enrich relationships. Sultan has some wonderful things to say about his owner and about the changes she has made to accommodate him and his needs. He was so happy with this. He also mentioned the ithciness of his skin and how he used to turn around and bite those areas. He said it was all related to detoxification for him, he used to be fed a high sugar diet with his previous human. He also menioned his saddle wasn't quite right when they went riding. Many horses tell me about this - they are very sensitive. Indeed, we are atop their spines, I think I would be sensitive about the weight on my spinal column too! As humans we tend to forget our animal companions have sensations, emotions and a physical body. This owner is very vigilant and kind. I asked Sultan what the high sugar diet does to his body. He responded by telling me it affects his body metabolism and eats away at the brain.

Sugar chews brain

When I receive information like this I look for scientific research that corroborates it and low and behold there it was. Many of the structures in the brain are affected by high sugar consumption. Most notably the hippocampus and memory are affected (Reas, 2014). Indeed, high levels of glucose can affect brain function and structure, leading to hippocampal atrophy and even dementia (Reas 2014). Sultan clearly knows what he is talking about. This is an example of the animal wisdom available to all of us, through animal communication. Each animal is different and will have a different perspective when asked the same questions. It is often difficult to choose which animals should be placed in the spot light for the magazine, because they all are special. So I have decided to include snippets of more than one in this issue!

I had a wonderful conversation with a cat name Katy, whose owner came to see me about a few things. One of her questions was why she had fleas. Katy informed us that they were purifying her blood! We both were taken aback but it made sense, parasites are cleaners in nature. When I proposed this to the American Council for Animal Naturopathy we did a student call on this very subject and honored our Dear Katy for her wisdom. I think this feedback from the animals and taking it forward is phenomenal. Animal Communication is allowing us a new perspective. Animals are assisting in their own well-being and health! So next time someone insults an animal's intelligence - you know this to be untrue, they have more wisdom than we believe!
