THE
PREDATOR ISSUE
“
A grunt on my deer call and a rattle of the antlers rings in a new deer hunting season . With all the excitement of a child at Christmas I eagerly await the sound of soft hoof steps in the freshly fallen leaves . An hour passes and amidst the scurrying and nattering of squirrels and grouse , I make out in the distance the always eerie sound of wolves howling softly to one another . It is apparent that they are moving my direction , no doubt to the sound of my deer calls .
In many regions of the country , hunters are reporting similar stories . As predator populations grow to mass proportions they , by all appearances , are beginning to have an adverse affect on the prey populations . With the fur trade not being what it once was , these populations are being left unchecked . Our mandate as hunters makes us conservationists and there is a real surge in hunters turning their sights on the predator population . This is a fun , and challenging area of hunting that offers great reward so , if you haven ’ t already , we encourage you to give it a try .
Our knowledgeable contributors have offered up their expert insights to help you get started harvesting fur bearing predators this winter .
