Keeping An Eye On Conservation
As hunters and anglers , we ’ re always watching for change . A change in water temperature triggers spawning in our favourite fish species . Changing leaves mark the onset of hunting season . And changing wind directions can mean those geese we ’ re eyeing up are primed to make an approach on our blinds . Change is exciting .
Not all change , however , is cause for celebration . Wildlife in Canada is under constant pressure from human activity , invasive species , mismanagement and disease . The hunting and fishing community is often among the first to notice declines in populations and negative changes to wildlife patterns , playing a critical role in conservation efforts . At Wild Guide we believe that conservation is everyone ’ s responsibility , and that starts with educating ourselves properly on the issues facing our fisheries and wildlife habitats . Knowing the threats allows us to take precautions that will ensure future generations have the same opportunities to enjoy nature as we do , preserving not only our wildlife populations but also our way of life . That ’ s why we ’ re so excited to bring you Canadian Conservation News .
It ’ s easy to skip over pages like these , but it is our sincere hope that you will take the time to educate yourself on the issues , and then use your voice to affect change . Join your local wildlife federation or fish & game association , speak up with your elected representatives , and above all carry the conversation forward with respect and integrity . We look forward to learning with you , maybe even creating a little change .
