Wicked Travels Winter 2015 | Page 8

With holiday stress is behind us, now is time to relax and rejuvenate for the New Year, and we’ve found the perfect place for a mid-winter indulgence, the Saybrook Point Inn in Connecticut.

The Inn is located between the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound with one of the most breath-taking views in Connecticut. You’ll feel the warmth and hospitality the minute you walk through the doors. For more than 25 years, the Inn has been owned and operated by the Tagliatela family, where attention to detail and customer service are exceptional.

We spent the day with Stephen Tagliatela, who took us on an amazing tour of Old Saybrook and shared its history. Old Saybrook was one of the earliest settlements in America (1635) and the original home of Yale University. Sitting directly across from the Inn is Fort Saybrook Monument Park, where the first Military installation in the US stood. Cypress Cemetery is fascinating and is one of the oldest continually operating cemeteries in the country. A Putt-Putt course was created directly across from the Inn which depicts Old Saybrook as it once was with reproductions of the early buildings. For those of you who are bird watchers, they have the largest nesting Ospreys in North America.
