The Power of Email Marketing: Building Relationships and Driving Sales | Page 5

The very first marketing email was sent by Gary Thuerk, the “Father of Spam,” back in 1978. It generated more than 13 million dollars in sales and practically birthed email marketing. Despite being around a lot longer than social media, email is still a frequently used marketing channel.

According to eMarketer, “69.7% of U.S. Internet users say email is their preferred method of communicating with businesses.” And 83% of B2B marketers use email newsletters for content marketing.
Research from Demand Metric and the Direct Marketing Association found that “email had a median ROI of 122 percent—more than four times higher than other marketing formats including social media, direct mail, and paid search.” Needless to say, it works.
If leveraged properly, email marketing can build long-lasting relationships and drive more sales.
