Feb. 7, 1991 – Jan. 24, 2019 Community activist Nathan D. Strickland Jr., grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He went on to earn first his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in forensic psychology from Tiffin University. Later, he received a master’s degree in community counseling from Oakland University. He crossed the baby blue sands of Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity Inc., in 2015. He was given the name Kaliber. Nathan worked as a health and wellness director for LGBT Detroit and for the Community Health Awareness Group, where he worked as a high impact prevention specialist. While at CHAG, Strickland volunteered for LGBT Detroit and Hotter Than July – Detroit’s black gay pride festival. He had also by this time started playing the violin and the viola in the Detroit Medical Orchestra. Nathan will be remembered by his jovial laugh and personality and his love of Sailor Moon. Nathan’s musical talent touched the hearts of many. Even though he may not be here, his love and touching words with forever be engraved in our hearts and souls. 11
