WELCOME TO THE PHAMILY!
Be Patient
I was driven into my thoughts after a conversation with a college friend & questions from a Bruh. The topic was dealing with parents/family not accepting your lifestyle...
"Be Patient With Your Parents." We all have a "coming out process"- meaning they do too! It is a process that requires us to first be honest with ourselves and then be honest with others. Often, our families' coming out process mirrors the same stages that we have gone through, which are not limited to, but often include confusion, shame, anger, denial, and ultimately acceptance.
Treat them as you wish they would treat you. There will be lots of tears and sometimes hurt feelings, but that's okay. Families are designed to be hurt feeling and tear resistant. If you put in the love-work, thirty years later you may have your Mother zipping your dress and your Father taking you down the aisle to the love of your life - that just happens to be a girl too! Or your father helping you with your tie and checking your tux as your bride waits to see you waiting at the altar for her. Don't give up on your families....
I was fortunate that my mother didn't fuss much - she just let me be. We had too much other foolishness going on in my family to be concerned with who I was dating...
Just my thoughts...
