From the Editor
Greetings, Readers!
We are so excited to be launching the very first, pilot if you will, issue of Whisk and Camera magazine; the first
magazine devoted entirely to the art of food photography. The idea was born after a casual mention from a
family member that there needed to be a food photography magazine. We agreed, knowing personally the need
for such a publication. Sure, there are a plethora of books, blog posts, workshops, and magazine articles about
food photography, but surprisingly not a single publication focused solely on this specific art form. Every
popular type of photography has a magazine, sometimes more than one, and since food photography is rapidly
on the rise, there needs to be a place where folks can read, learn, share, and be inspired about their (food)
photography endeavors. So, W&C was created to provide just that
In our first issue, we are pleased to offer exciting content written by bloggers whose interests and professions
lie in not only blogging about food, but in photographing it as well.
Here is a sampling of what lies ahead in the coming pages:
? Food Photography? (page 22): Aimee Twigger shares the background of her photography style and tips for
good food photography. Alexandra from Bright-Eyed Baker, gives a breakdown of different lighting styles and
how important it is to carefully choose a form of light for each shoot (page 48). Madeline from Madeline Marie,
offers us a fun article on photographing food using your smartphone (page 30); you don?t necessarily need to
have a DSLR camera in order to capture fantastic photos, how about using that smartphone sitting in your
pocket? In her article, Madeline shares her 7 points for great iPhoneography as well as some must have apps.
On page 16 you will find My Afternoon Kitchen author, Stephanie, present the ins and outs of composition and
the importance of composing your food photos just right. Also, be sure to check out Bec Dickinson?s article
?The Fundamentals of Food Photography? (page 09) where she breaks down the essential elements that make
a food photograph mouthwateringly great.
This is just a sampling of the content that we are bringing to our first issue
and we sincerely hope that you will find something here which you will enjoy
and is helpful to you. I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our
contributors who have been so great to work with and have been very
generous with their time and knowledge, so THANK YOU! And thank you,
readers, for being here and for your support and interest in this magazine!
Now, read on and prepare to be inspired and learn something new from every
page.
Happy Reading!
