Dotted with islands and hemmed in by mountains,
Howe Sound is a spectacular sight. But beneath the sur-
face, there’s a fascinating history, too. Just 45 minutes
from Vancouver, Britannia Mine Museum (page 71)
explores the fjord through two exhibits. Foundations, a
new outdoor exhibit perched 12 m (40 ft) above the
sound, has spectacular 360-degree views and info
on the mine’s 114-year history and impact. Dive even
deeper with Howe Sound: Beauty Below, a showcase of
underwater photography by two local scuba divers.
Snaps of marine life, coral reefs and sunken shipwrecks
are almost as eye-catching as Howe Sound itself—and
