West End Hideaway
A block off bustling Denman, Adesso Bistro
(page 101) yields inventive European flavours
with contemporary flair. Housed in the ground
floor of a heritage hotel, the tranquil setting
includes one of the city’s leafiest and most
secluded patios. On the plate, chef Pekka
Tavela’s artfully presented fare includes fresh
tuna crudo, deeply flavoured pork-and-fennel
rigatoni, squash-and-ricotta agnolotti, and
game hen with shallots and Brussels sprouts.
Classic cocktails and smart wine picks complete
the picture. Looking for more neighbourhood
haunts? Check out compact and friendly Amici
Miei (page 101) for authentic cuisine from Italy’s
Abruzzo region. For good Greek eats, head
to Davie Street’s Takis’ Taverna (page 100) to
savour souvlaki, kleftiko and saganaki. Or, at
Davie Street and Denman, climb the stairs to
discover retro Bayside Lounge (page 101), with
its circular bar, classic cocktails and casual bites.

Dockside Delights
A short jaunt from downtown, once-sleepy Horseshoe Bay is now a busy ferry terminus, but it
still sports a certain village charm. Olive & Anchor (page 110), a popular family-friendly spot,
offers breakfast, lunch and dinner in a laid-back, gently pubby setting. Myriad choices travel the
globe, with tastes such as blackened wild salmon, chicken tikka masala, cod fish ’n’ chips, and
albacore tuna salad. Smartly paired wines and good local beers complete the picture. Drop by
Seaside Village Cafe (page 110) for fresh roasted coffee, good juices and handmade sandwiches.
Don’t have a car? Hop on the 257 Horseshoe Bay Express bus, which speeds past all the bridge
traffic and drops you there in under 30 minutes—transit’s best-kept secret!
