The CSTM updated some of
its favourite exhibitions, like
the mammoth-sized, real-life
locomotives in Steam: A World
in Motion as well as the Crazy
Kitchen, where guests learn
about perception and illusion by
crossing a sharply angled floor.
Explore the evolution of medical
care in Medical Sensations,
which allows guests to use a
stethoscope to find a heart mur-
mur, identify anomalies in x-rays
and CT scans, and simulate a
surgical operation using robotics.
There’s the opportunity to install
a hydroelectric dam and operate
a nuclear fusion reactor in From
Earth to Us, a descent into natu-
ral resources and energy.
How connected are Canadians
to their technology? An exhibi-
tion, Technology in Our Lives,
explores the relationship between
Canadians and their everyday
tools, appliances, and machines.
A tiny home allows visitors to
examine the logistics of living
in less than 400 square feet, and
three “Trash People” sculptures
built from waste — like circuit
boards and soft-drink cans —
draw a link between consump-
tion habits and their outcomes.
Sound by Design features
displays of music machines,
telephones, and recording
devices. Play DJ on a massive
spinning record or try your hand
at the eerie theremin, one of the
first electronic instruments and
certainly one of the most unique.
Too much din? Visit the Quiet
Cube — a room designed to
completely eliminate sound.
