Canadian War Museum
Remembrance Day in the
capital is primarily observed
at the National War Memorial
on Wellington Street. But the
peaceful Memorial Hall in the
Canadian War Museum is an-
other focal point where sunlight
perfectly frames the headstone
of Canada’s Unknown Soldier
at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11. This
and many other aspects of the
building earned the design team
a Governor General’s Award in
Architecture.
Permanent exhibits deal
with the experience of war
through the ages, including
battles between First Peoples,
the French, and the British, the
South African War, the First and
Second World Wars, peacekeep-
ing missions, the Cold War, and
recent conflicts.
