a major role in the development of this city and the
museum’s goal is to preserve that heritage. Home to

NATURE
ASSINIBOINE PARK ZOO Prim peacocks, monkeys,
prairie dogs, camels and tigers call the zoo home. Don’t
miss the Journey to Churchill exhibit, which features polar
bears and other arctic species. Daily 9 am-4 pm (gates
close at 3:30 pm). Adult $19.75, senior/youth $17.50 (60+

FORTWHYTE ALIVE This nature preserve is a rural oasis
inside the city. Winter activities include snowshoeing,
cross country skiing on groomed trails, and nordic walking.
Nov 27 & Dec 4: Get Santa photos in the great outdoors
during annual Santa in the Forest from 11 am-3 pm. Visit the
Buffalo Stone Cafe and gift shop on-site. Mon-Fri 9 am-5

OAK HAMMOCK MA RSH This thriving wetland is
home to nearly 300 species of birds and wildlife. Winter
activities include snowshoeing and animal tracking
(weather dependant). Gift shop and interpretive centre
on‑site. Dec 17: Take part in the annual Christmas Bird
Count and help tabulate winter residents of the marsh.

PARKS/TRAILS
ASSINIBOINE PARK Enjoy a walk in the crisp winter air
through this park’s many trails. Winter activities at the
park include a toboggan slide, ice skating on the beautiful
central pond and cross-country skiing trails (weather
dependant.) Covering 153 hectares along the Assiniboine
River the park is also home to the Conservatory, Zoo,
English Gardens, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, Lyric Theatre,
Tudor-Style Pavilion, Pavilion Gallery at WAG@The
Park, Pavilion Event Centre, Qualico Family Centre and
Park Café. Park is open 24 hours daily. Main entrance is
at 2355 Corydon Ave. The park is also accessible from
Portage Ave, via the footbridge across the Assiniboine

SPRINGHILL WINTER PARK Located a 1/2 hour from
downtown, this is the closest downhill ski facility to
Winnipeg. The park offers downhill runs as well as terrain
for snowboarding and cross-country skiing. Also toboggan

WINDSOR PARK NORDIC SKI CENTRE Opens Dec
This outdoor park offers two lighted cross-country ski
trails for as long as there’s snow to ski. Ski lessons are also
available by CANSI certified instructors. Mon-Thu 12 pm-10
pm, Fri noon-9 pm, Sat-Sun 9 am-6 pm. Adult $5, senior/
youth (11-17) $4, children (10 and under) $3, family $12.

ADRENALINE ADVENTURES Giant outdoor adventure

ROYAL CANADIAN MINT All of Canada’s circulating
coins, as well as currency for many foreign countries are
produced here by high-speed presses that can create up to
15 million coins per day. Interactive Coin Museum on‑site.

PRAIRIE DOG CENTRAL RAILWAY This vintage steam
locomotive holds up to 300 guests for a wild entertainment
