is an experimental artist
exploring emotions through abstract expressionism. for more than
forty years, she has created a collection of art depicting typography
of canada through expressive form, colour, line and texture.
growing up in manitoba with limited artistic resources, kathleen
drew from childhood observations during highway excursions with
her family, sketching vivid scenes on brown paper bags. venturing
to the west coast at the age of 18 to study at vancouver’s emily carr
college of art and design, she favoured a more hands-on approach
and continued exploring british columbia and self-teaching along
the way.
twenty years later, kathleen returned to winnipeg and established
her artistic profession by transposing memories of movement
into abstract landscapes. many of her pieces are swathed with
ethereal brush strokes reminiscent of wheatgrass blowing in the
wind, contrasting colours from field to field, and billowing clouds in
expansive prairie skies.
a lover of alchemy with a finely honed sense of composition, she
also creates tactile pieces with mixed media using construction
