The northernmost Islamic garden in the world is now only 15 minutes
southwest of Edmonton. The Aga Khan Garden officially opened to
the public in June 2018 after nearly a decade of planning, 18 months
of construction—and a $25-million donation from the spiritual leader
of the world’s Ismaili Muslim community. This newest addition to the
award-winning University of Alberta Botanic Garden balances Islamic
traditions with the Edmonton region’s climate and landscape, featuring
geometric water features, predominantly Canadian stonework,
and over 25,000 gorgeous plants chosen for their hardiness,
colour, and fragrance. Explore this stunning place of beauty, peace,
