ABSTRACT
OCTOBER 14 – NOVEMBER 4 With
his instinctual and automatic practice,
Edmonton artist Tim Rechner hopes
to reproduce the spontaneity and
enthusiasm children have for art. The
resulting emotive pieces represent the
energy of freedom and optimism. Scott
Gallery, 10411-124 St., 780-488-3619.

THE SOUND OF
COLOUR
OCTOBER 20 – NOVEMBER 3 Frenzied and complex, Austria-
born Ernestine Tahedl’s work dazzles the eye with its busy display
of colour. In this exciting exhibit, Symphonic Timbre, her new work
is inspired by landscapes, which are barely recognizable in the
exhilarating abstractions they become. Though Tahedl launched
her career in Edmonton, her work is now widely recognized across
the country and in Europe. Bugera Matheson Gallery, 10345-124
St., 780-482-2845. bugeramathesongallery.com
SCULPTED
IDENTITY
OCTOBER 5 – NOVEMBER 17 In her
exhibit, Getting Big, Violet Costello
reshapes reality in a series of 16
paintings, each accompanied by paper
sculptures of toddlers with ambiguous
shapes, architectural forms, and animal
heads. Through her ability to represent
a child’s world of play in strange forms,
Costello questions identity and the nature
of representation. Latitude 53, 10242-106
St., 780-423-5353. latitude53.org
