Hot  Dining BY MATTHEW STEPANIC EXTENDED ENTERTAINMENT Only a convenient, short walk from the new Rogers Place, Stage 104 Kitchen + Lounge (pg 58) is an energetic entertainment and food destination. Extend your night out downtown before or after an event with its regularly featured comedy nights, jam sessions, and other special events. While you’re being entertained, enjoy a refreshing craft beer or cocktail and some internationally inspired cuisine, such as the Cevapi-style sandwiches: grilled minced pork and beef served on a housemade bun. PHOTOS BY JAMIE TWEEDY OF TWEEDY STUDIOS GO DUTCH With modern, amiable décor, De Dutch (pg 54) serves up classic breakfast and lunch foods with a twist from the Netherlands. You may need to go Dutch on more than just your bill as the Pannekoeken — at a diameter of 12 inches — works out to 113 square-inch bites! Its light flavour and soft texture makes it adaptable for both savoury and sweet breakfasts. The Canadian style is topped with sliced tomatoes, free-run eggs, crisp bacon, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Or make your own sweet specialty by starting with a light dusting of icing sugar, adding fruit toppings — from strawberry to peach — and fresh whipped cream. BENTO BITES Though its name means “traditional Japanese cuisine,” this Asian hot spot also features Korean food, including Veggie Dolsot Bibimbap served in a sizzling stone bowl and tender, sweet Galbi Ribs. The real highlight at Washoku Bistro (pg 60) is its large variety of lunch bentos at affordable prices. Choose from a Sushi and Roll Bento or a Bulgogi Bento — both of which are accompanied by crunchy tempura and fresh salad, and the latter with sautéed veggies and rice.
