Black Arts Matter

artists . As part of the Chinook Series ( pg 25 ), BAM poses itself as a
festival within a festival that highlights the magic in Black and Indigenous art .
This year ’ s theme , “ Solidarity through Art ,” seeks to create a conversation by building connections between art , culture , and the people within it . This year ’ s event is a period piece titled “ One Night in Harlem ” that will explore the influential music and artistic expression spanning from 1922 to present day . The show , now in its 12th year , historically highlights sounds from jazz to reggae , gospel , and contemporary influences . This year ’ s diverse line-up will deliver nothing short of a refreshing musical expedition that looks at artistic expression from three key international venues : The Cotton Club , the Savoy Ballroom , and the Apollo Theater . 5artists1love . com
AfroQuiz 2018
February 24 | 12 pm | Citadel Theatre | 9828-101A Ave . Give your children a chance to have some fun and show off their trivia skills ! This Jeopardy ! -style event — hosted by the Council for Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage ( CCACH )— provides children and youth an opportunity to learn Black peoples ’ contributions to both Canada and the world .
