MOM AND POP
Not that you need the reminder, but
Mother’s Day (May 14) and Father’s Day
(June 18) are coming up!
FOR THE MAMAS
Remind mom that her little acorn (that
would be you) didn’t fall too far from
the tree with a handmade brass acorn
necklace from Reworks Upcycle Shop
(page 38). Brighten up mom’s work space
with a tiny, adorable airplant terrarium
(pictured) from Plant (page 38). Help mom
fuel up on the go with a reusable and barista-
firendly KeepCup (pictured) from Orange
Works (page 38) and many local cafés including Analog
(fratellocoffee.com/analog-coffee).
FOR THE PAPAS
Make sure no one forgets who grilled
their steak to perfection by enabling
your old man to emblazon DAD on
every single one with a locally-
made steak branding iron
(pictured) from Barbecues Galore
(page 38). Indulge dad’s
classically cheesy side
with a comfy Hawaiian
print shirt (pictured) made
in Honolulu from North
American Quality Purveyors
(page 37). Get dad to crack
a smile when he gets his hands
on a marshmallow-shooting
crossbow from The Uncommons
(page 38).

What started with
Candice Munro sewing
aprons at her kitchen
table in Kelowna, B.C. is
now Buttercream Clothing.
Munro’s Calgary-based
company employs 21 local
seamstresses to design
and sew scarves, skirts,
dresses, sweaters, t-shirts,
tank tops, lounge pants,
leggings, and vests. “Ethical
manufacturing is feel-
good,” Munro says. “We
never considered having
things outsourced because
it is just so simple not
to outsource.” This is
clothing you can feel
good about (the fabric
supplier in Vancouver
ensures that fabric dyes
do not go back into
environment) and feel
good in: Buttercream
Clothing is made from
a super soft bamboo,
organic cotton, and jersey
blend. You can find scarves
at Greater Goods (page 40)
and the Calgary Farmers’
Market (page 38), clothing at
Curated market (page 38) and The
Shoe Closet (page 38), or order a
made-to-order piece online at
buttercreamclothing.com.
