THROUGH FALL 2017 The National Music Centre is displaying its first loaned Grammy , and it belongs to Sarah McLachlan for her 1997 hit “ Building a Mystery .” It ' s part of a temporary exhibition that honours McLachlan . Exhibition manager Sam Cronk says pulling together this type of exhibit requires some negotiation with the musician . “ It ’ s a question of what do you have , what can you spare ? Hey , can we borrow your guitar for a year even though you ’ re an active performer ?” What did make it into the exhibit includes instruments , awards , and a stage costume . Cronk says visitors can expect to learn some things they may not have known about McLachlan ’ s career . “ It ’ s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a great Canadian musician and a great opportunity to reinforce the dynamic story of music in Canada ,” Cronk says ( nmc . ca ).
