ART GALLERIES + MUSEUMS Artist Spotlight LISA MURPHY-LAMB As the founder and director of Loft 112, writer Lisa Murphy- Lamb volunteers her time to ensure Calgarians have access to an affordable creative hub. “Loft 112 is a small, intimate, welcoming space that supports writers and artists in the celebration, creation, and sharing of their craft,” Murphy-Lamb says. Loft 112 is open to creatives wanting to host art exhibitions, readings, workshops, and much more. The organization is celebrating its third anniversary in May 2017, and Murphy-Lamb says the space welcomes all Calgarians interested in flexing their creative muscles. “We’ve had teens use the space and hold art shows and music evenings, we've had artists hold their very first show, and small businesses try their first workshop," says Murphy-Lamb. "But we've also had award-winning writers, artists, and musicians use the space. What I've noticed over the years is the sense of liberation people have with taking risks with their own craft when they realize that Loft 112 is inexpensive, accessible, and welcoming.” Last year Loft 112 introduced micro-press Loft On Eight, which publishes chapbooks by local authors. “To have that space as part of the cultural diversity of the city is really important,” says local poet Weyman Chan, who has a chapbook published with Loft On Eight. Murphy-Lamb says she is grateful for the Calgarians who share her vision for the space and pitch in to keep Loft 112 running. “It does take a village,” Murphy-Lamb says. “If I didn’t have a team of volunteers, I wouldn’t be able to do it.” Check out the space for yourself during Barbara Sutherland’s art exhibition Aqueous Acquiesce (page 25), the Long Table Creative collaborative drawing series (page 26), and Stacey Walyuchow’s art exhibition Pieces (page 26). — Silvia Pikal The following listings include museums, antiques dealers, and art galleries that the editors judge worthy of your attention, including advertisers in Where Calgary.
