RON
SEXSMITH
May 10 This Canadian singer-
songwriter has been creating his
“melancholic folk pop” music
for over three decades. His
new album, The Last Rider, was
recorded at the Tragically Hip’s
Bathhouse Recording Studio, and
Canadian greats like Leonard
Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot
have heavily influenced
his “content, nostalgic, and
personal” sound (page 30).
May 24 - 27 One of the city’s most prominent arts
festivals is also the largest celebration of theatre for
young audiences in Calgary. The outdoor stage in
Olympic Plaza hosts free, live entertainment, while
shows such as the musical stylings of internationally-
renowned kid-hop artist Secret Agent 23 Skidoo will
take place in various theatres at the neighbouring
Arts Commons. From music, dance, and acrobatic
performances to science demonstrations and student
workshops, there’s something for kids of all ages to
enjoy — including the young-at-heart (page 30).
