MAY 4 May the Fourth be with you ! Get it ? If not , just move on — this day isn ’ t for you . Start your day at Yellow Door Bistro ( page 44 ) for breakfast and order their special Death Star waffle . Celebrate at geek mecca Sentry Box ( page 40 ) by picking up some collectibles or joining in on a Star Wars card game . For the more discerning fan , check out the Star Wars themed wine tasting at Bricks Wine Company ( page 40 ).
NO DIET DAY
MAY 6 Watching what you eat ? Not today , you ’ re not . If you ’ re going to break your diet , you might as well go all in . Grate & Barrel ( page 49 ) specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches and pie milkshakes ( that would be a slice of pie blended into a shake ).
LOST SOCK MEMORIAL DAY
MAY 9 Let us take a moment of silence to remember those intrepid socks that vanished somewhere in the drawerfeet-dryer Bermuda triangle . Swing by Kricket ’ s ( page 40 ) for some fun and funky replacements — it ’ s what your old socks would have wanted . NATIONAL SEA MONKEY DAY
MAY 16 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an all-seeing deity , lording the power of life and death over your puny subjects ? Begin your divine reign by obtaining an aquarium of sea monkeys from Discovery Hut ( page 40 ). Will you be a cruel or benevolent ruler ? Only time will tell .
NATIONAL STEAKHOUSE MONTH
JUNE Finally a month we can really sink our teeth into . If this holiday wasn ’ t invented by Albertans , it really should have been — Alberta is known for unbelievably amazing beef ( it ’ s the best , just ask us ). Head to Vintage Chophouse ( page 53 ) and Caesar ’ s Steakhouse and Lounge ( page 53 ) for evidence of these claims .
WORLD GIN DAY
JUNE 10 Ease arthritis … eliminate foot odour … get you drunk … is there anything gin can ’ t do ? That last one is where we ’ ll be focusing our attention on this illustrious day . The Derrick Gin Mill and Kitchen ( page 48 ) and Whitehall ( page 48 ) have dozens of gins available and some pretty great gin cocktails , including three ounce “ G & T Bowls ” at The Derrick .
INTERNATIONAL PICNIC DAY
JUNE 18 Not to be confused with International Panic Day , which also happens to be June 18 . Picnicking is a lot more fun than panicking , so order a gourmet picnic basket loaded with locally-sourced goodies from the renowned River Café ( page 48 ), which is conveniently located in Prince ’ s Island Park — the perfect spot for a picnic .
