Aside from the very scenic drive through the Alberta foothills, visit for lunch or dinner, a game of golf, festivals and farmers markets, or if you are particularly thirsty check out the Eau Claire Distillery (page 70). Take a tour and get a behind the scenes look at how they craft some of Alberta’s finest premium spirits. Do everything that the foothills and Rockies have to offer during the summer, only 30 minutes from downtown Calgary in Bragg Creek (page 70). Go hiking, biking, fishing, golfing or horseback riding and cap the day off with a coffee at the cozy Cinnamon Spoon or dine at one of the many restaurant options such as The Italian Farmhouse. Special Event: Visit during Bragg Creek Days (July 22nd and 23rd) as there will be a parade, live music, face painting, beer gardens, and more. TRANS CANADA TRAIL Bike, run, or walk on The Great Trail this summer and celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by exploring Canada’s massive multipurpose pathway. The Trans Canada Trail covers over 21,000 km across all provinces and territories. It is made up of both land trails and waterway routes. Calgary is the trail's entry to the Rockies. So grab a bike or get your runners on and explore the scenic trails that Calgary, the foothills, and the Rockies have to offer. Recommendation: Bike the 22 km stretch between Canmore and Banff on the Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail. This trail takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours one way and is rated a “beginner” difficulty trail. 68 where.ca JULY/AUGUST 2017 Release your inner explorer and visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller this summer. Go way back in time to when giant beasts roamed the very same land that is now the Alberta Badlands. At the museum, freely move from exhibit to exhibit, or take a guided tour and learn more about the amazing creatures that once called Alberta home.
