All of the craft fairs Calgary has to offer. One of my favourites is the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market (page 41)— walking around with hot cocoa, purchasing thoughtful gifts and seeing the odd reindeer. I also enjoy Bearspaw Christmas Market (page 41) for the gift you can’t find anywhere else. The Nutcracker from Alberta Ballet (page 34) is a must. Where are some good places to go for hearty comfort food on a cold day? The Nash (page 51); eat-in or whole chicken take-out with all the fixings. If I am staying downtown, I go across the street to Plowshare (page 53)—the tomato soup and grilled cheese is the best I have ever had. Skating downtown at Olympic Plaza (page 34), skiing at WinSport (page 34) or going snow tubing. The Calgary Zoo is a winter wonderland with Zoolights (page 38). If you need equipment we have Nomad Mobile Gear Rental (page 38)—they bring everything right to your home or hotel room. What’s your best tip for tackling holiday shopping in Calgary? I enjoy holiday shopping all of November and December. I find visiting Calgary’s major shopping centres like The Core (page 46) and CrossIron Mills (page 46) inspiring and festive. I also enjoy boutique shopping in Inglewood. 1139 Kensington Road NW 587-356-4488 • trapped.ca Outside of the Ordinary 201, 1211 Kensington Rd NW | 403-283-4006 www.brooklynclothing.com DAWN BARCHAM www.VisitKensington.com What’s something you would recommend to visitors that you don’t get asked about very often? Our local wine shops like The Cellar (page 47) and Willow Park Wines (page 47) offer wine tastings and events. A popular, fun activity is locked rooms; there are many in Calgary and the feedback is always great for team building or for a group party. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017 where.ca 17
