Named after a nearby glacial erratic chunk of rock outside the town of
Okotoks, Alberta, Big Rock Brewery has always prided itself on being a local
creation. From the beginning, local ingredients and home-grown talent have
been a focus. At a time in life when most people think about retirement, Ed
McNally began his own brewery in 1985 at the tender age of 65. He set out to
“make the beers that I want to drink.” By 1995, demand for Ed’s ales outgrew
the original facility they were brewed in off Barlow Trail. A new brewery was
built and Big Rock began operations at its current location in 1996. The
facility consists of three breweries; the main brewery, the Kaspar Schultz
brewery devoted to smaller seasonal brews, and the nano brewery for
experimentation and the barrel program. In 2016, Big Rock added a custom
Koelschip room for spontaneously fermented brews. Big Rock also brews
daily in Vancouver, BC and in Toronto, ON. Book a tour online.

people who are truly passionate about beer exploration, starting with Vlad, a
long-time home-brewer who moved from Eastern Europe to Calgary with a
dream of making freshly made, high quality, traditional beer. Caravel uses old
brewing methods to explore both forgotten styles and new tastes.

The story for Common Crown Brewing Co. starts with two twin
brothers, Andrew and Damon Moreau, a garage, and a passion
to create small-batch craft beer. This led the brothers, and
Bob Robertshaw, to formulate plans to open Common Crown
Brewing in NE Calgary. Showcasing local agriculture, music,
art and the craft beer scene are the foundation for Common
Crown’s vision. Our ingredients are sourced from Alberta
to ensure a local product. We support the local community
through various events and local partnerships, in concert with
our great tasting beer.
Common Crown Brewing Co. — our focus is to brew quality
beer with the purpose of creating a social atmosphere to share
