ASK THE EXPERT JEFFREY COBRANA Concierge, Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel What are your favourite spring festivals or events? One of my favorite spring festivals would be Otafest (otafest.com). This convention celebrates Japanese art and culture by showcasing art exhibitions, gaming, anime screenings, cosplays and performances. Where are some places to shop for unique Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts? In Chinook Mall, I was able to look around the brand new Saks Fifth Avenue which would give you tons of options for Mother’s or Father’s Day. I was very impressed with the fragrance collections that Saks Fifth offers, and I have purchased fragrances a few to give as a present for Mother’s Day (and a few cologne bottles for myself). Where is the best place to indulge your sweet tooth? There’s only one place that can satisfy my sweet tooth — Village Ice Cream (villageicecream.com). Locally made, this ice cream shop has a lot of amazing flavours like the Melted Chocolate flavor, the Salted Caramel flavor, or my personal favourite, the Guide’s Mint flavor. Come (re)discover Calgary and its iconic Tower calgarytower.com 10 where.ca MAY/JUNE 2018 Where do you recommend for socializing with a big group of friends or coworkers? I would highly recommend going to the Rec Room (page 46). It’s Calgary’s newest entertainment room that has a massive collection of arcade games such as virtual reality and VRX Car Racing Simulator. Of course, after playing some arcade games, my friends and I make our way to their walk-up snack bar called The Shed for some poutine and beverages. It’s been a long winter — where’s your favorite place to enjoy the outdoors in the city? After the winter season, my favorite place to enjoy the outdoors in Calgary is Prince’s Island Park, located at the Bow River. You can find joggers, cyclists and even just families looking to enjoy the warm weather. I love walking around the park with my family and friends while enjoying the city sights.
