EDITOR ’ S NOTE

NIGHT LIGHTS

In Calgary , March tends to come in like a lion … and leave like a lion . While spring hasn ’ t quite sprung , Calgarians are perfectly willing to pretend . The February deep freeze is over and that ’ s reason enough to celebrate — so strap on your snow boots and earmuffs and join us on the patio . If we sit close enough to the fire pit , we ’ ll be just fine !
Okay , so the days are still short and chilly . That just means we have to make the most of the nights . Whether you ’ re looking for love , trying to seal a deal , palling around with your best buds or all on your own , there ’ s plenty to keep you occupied after dark .
This is the time of year when stages are fully booked , from live music performances to theatre that runs the gamut of nostalgic , intriguing and sublime . It ’ s when chefs , maybe slightly piqued with cabin fever , are turning out inventions unavailable anywhere else in the world .
While summer festival season is still a few months ( and several degrees Celsius ) away , some of the city ’ s more quirky options are in full swing . Calgary Underground Film Festival ( page 34 ) is a must for film buffs and casual movie-goers alike , while foodies should definitely not miss the chance to restaurant-hop with The Big Taste festival , March 2 - 11 ( calgarydowntown . com / thebig-taste ). And who could forget the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo ( page 34 )? From humble beginnings , it ’ s grown into a beast with more than 100,000 attendees expected to fill the halls .
Join in on the fun as Calgarians shake off their winter blues and make the most of these nights !
