What is your first memory of creating art?
When I was 3-4 years old, I expressed my creative nature by doodling with red lipstick on blue
wallpaper in my parents’ living room. Needless to say, my parents were not inspired by my
creativity.
Do you have a favorite piece that you have created? What makes it special to you?
Yes - an abstract painting of my 3 granddaughters. Of course, it is special to me because of the
subjects, but it is also special because of the techniques I employed. I incorporated paint from
their home and mine and wrote their names as well as the names of people and pets that are
important to them. Also hidden in the painting are some of my favorite sayings and individual
notes of affection.
Do you have a favorite artist that you admire or that inspires you?
Matisse.
What do you listen to when you paint?
I love to listen to all types of music, depending on my mood that day. I have a 17 hour playlist
that I rely on to keep me motivated. That being said, there are days when I prefer quiet and I
don’t listen to anything at all.
What tool in your studio could you not live without?
My apron and paint shoes! I am a physical artist and I operate best when I am free to make
messes.
Do you have a favorite subject matter?
I tend to focus on feminine figurative subjects – like women and flowers. While my subject
matter may be softer, I am not shy of using bolder colors to balance it out.
What is your preferred medium?
Acrylic. Though I like to sprinkle in some mixed media to keep it interesting. Every now and
then, I dabble in oil, especially when I am seeking a more blended look.
