Out Side The House I began my art career as a fabric artist and texture has been a theme throughout my work in all media, from frothy thread paintings to whisking the edges on my oils, to creating an explosion of edges color and markings in my pastels. I learned my first oil techniques from Debra Joy Groesser - a wonderful plein air painter. In the late 2000’s I studied under Deborah Bays, master pastelist, in atmospheric realism. Deborah instilled in me a love of dramatic lighting and working with edges to create depth and atmosphere. My life changed when I lost my husband of 35 years in 2015, and my art followed my life changes. My art career had been all about traditional subjects, particularly still life. As I resumed painting, I needed an outlet “traditional” work couldn’t provide. I began experimenting with abstract first in oil. Then I discovered the pastel abstracts of Debora L Stewart and took a workshop where I learned my approach to pastels. There is a freedom and vibrancy in working from my imagination and intuition. I am a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, a member of the Pastel Society of Colorado, a member of 40 West Arts District, and member of Lakewood Arts. http://cynthiahaase.com 84
