Do you have a favorite color palette?
Many might imagine an artist’s palette to be divided into cool and warm colors, or perhaps a
real life color wheel of pigment. In my case, I don’t have a defined color palette. I tend to examine
my work, my subject and then subsequently distinguish between colors that I would use in large
amounts and others that are smaller factors in the overall piece. I do, however, keep into account
specific “combinations” of colors for different types of themes such as landscapes or portraits. If
I’m working on a series, I might lay out a set of colors that I’ll use throughout.
What subject appears the most in your paintings and why?
In our generation today, we usually see lots of portraits. I’ll admit that portraits have been
prominent in my latest works, especially since they are so common in school art. Still, I enjoy
plein air and painting natural things or scenes I observe.
How often do you paint? How many hours a week?
I try to paint at least a few hours a week. Is is quite difficult to blend in these hours on week days
since I’m constantly involved with school activities. The weekends are the periods I take advantage of to get in some quality painting time.
How would you like to be remembered?
I don’t necessarily want to be remembered as leaving a legacy in the field of art or as one of the
most famous artists. I desire my own approach to how I want to have an impact on the world,
not just as an artist, but as a social figure too. I wish to be remembered for my actions, for my
inspiring work. All these qualities that include terms such as “child prodigy” aren’t what I’m looking for in my impression. Simply, I seek to become the artist who follows the path that he paints
for himself.
