Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 1 Number 2 | Page 30

Rick Heck February 2015 When did you realize you loved art and wanted to be ‘an artist’? As a child I studied music and loved writing songs of my own. As an adult the improvisation of jazz fostered my creativity. I then began to look for visual avenues to express myself and became passionate about painting and my desire to be an artist. Who has been the greatest influence from your past to mentor you to this career? Again, music was the key for me. The intense passion of Burt Bacharach in his melodies and orchestration inspired me. I wanted to express what was in my heart to my hands and create a feast for the eyes. Who is your mentor today, or another artist you admire and why? I study with Lisa Mischler, a Tucson artist. She inspires me to go beyond what I see to what I feel. Her encouragement and support help me in my painting. What is your favorite surface to paint on? Describe it if you make it yourself. I paint on stretched gallery wrapped canvas. What brand of paints do you use? I use Lukas Acryl acrylic paints. Do you have a favorite color palette? My palette changes with the mood I want to convey in the painting. www.flowingpaint.com 29
