I think there is probably one word that could describe my experience at Nationals in Oxford, OH: euphoria. From watching Eric Yao and former historian Lucy Ku maneuver a rock in a baby cart to staying up all night talking and eating spicy Ramen with fellow state board members Emma Mason and Vivi Lu, my second National Convention was leaps and bounds better than any other week I experienced away from home. What is always so fantastic about Nationals is that there is something for everyone: there ’ s Certamen for the most ardent academics, Olympika for the athletes, nightly dances for the partyers, workshops for those who want to build their JCLs and learn a little culture along the way, and more. There ’ s not many occasions that could match up to my experience in Oxford, eating lunch with my favorite seniors for the last time before they leave for college, leading chapter caucuses of one of the most charismatic states in the NJCL, screaming my lungs out in the name of spirit with the rest of the state to earn a top place in spirit ( because in the THE TORCH | 4 words of Kevin Fan, REFLECTIONS FROM NAT CON By Ann - Marie Abunyewa Photographs by Jason Juang IN THE SPOTLIGHT former Wheeler JCLer and GJCL Parliamentarian, “ Georgia doesn ’ t take Ls. ”) , and praying for another week of break before school the following Wednesday. Although my reminiscence of one of the best weeks of my life is rather short, I encourage any JCLer to go to National Convention at least once ; it will make some lifelong memories that will be worth keeping.
