The Social Studies department ' s mission is to prepare Wheeler students to become creative and independent thinkers by guiding them in the understanding and analysis of important political, geographic, economic, legal and social issues of our contemporary and historical world.
Students will be exposed to learning through: Civic Competence: Students should develop the knowledge and skills needed to be an active participant in public life. Civic Participation: Students should develop the ability to actively participate in civic action. Appreciation of Diversity: Students should understand and appreciate the views, values, and customs of others. Critical Thinking: Students should develop the ability to analyze issues from multiple perspectives and evaluate claims.
