Grade Point Average ( GPA )
Every course you take ( whether you pass or fail the course ) is used to calculate your Grade Point Average ( GPA ). Performing well in a class affects your GPA positively , while performing poorly in a class affects your GPA negatively . Keep in mind , college admissions ’ officers will see all of your grades .
How to Calculate Your GPA
All high school grades are used to calculate your cumulative GPA , and all academic courses count toward eligibility for the HOPE and Zell Scholarship programs ( see page 11 ).
To calculate your unweighted GPA , add all the quality points you have earned from your classes using the chart below . Divide the total by how many credits you attempted ( not just earned ).

Additional Quality Points That Can Be Earned
Students will have two GPAs that they will cumulate : unweighted and weighted . Students can earn additional quality points that will go towards their “ weighted ” GPA since they are earning additional “ weight ” towards their GPA . An unweighted GPA factors in no additional quality points .
Honors courses A course designated as “ Honors ” will earn an additional 0.5 quality point added to the course ’ s final earned quality points . For example , if a student earns an “ A ” in an Honors class , the student will earn 4.5 quality points that will calculate towards their cumulative grade-point average ( GPA ). Note : Some courses that are designated as “ Honors ” will earn an additional 1.0 quality point such as any World Language course beyond level III and Honors Multivariable Calculus .
Advanced Placement ( AP ) and Post-AP courses Any course designated as “ AP ” and most “ Post-AP ” will earn an additional 1.0 quality point added to the course ’ s final earned quality point . For example , if a student earns an “ A ” in an AP class , the student will earn 5.0 quality points that will calculate towards their cumulative gradepoint average ( GPA ).
