Course Name: Native Spanish II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Native Speaker I( 70 %+) or Spanish placement test
Description: This course is designed for heritage learners of Spanish who bring strong proficiency and literacy skills in Spanish, as well as for those who have completed Spanish for Native Speakers I. This course focuses on the development of advanced communicative competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening and viewing, as well as on understanding Hispanic cultures and issues of identity of heritage speakers of Spanish in the United States. Students will also continue to develop awareness and understanding of Hispanic cultures, including language variation, customs, geography, history, and current events.
Course Name: Honors Spanish II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Spanish I( 90 %+)
Description: This course is designed for the student who has demonstrated superior facility in foreign language and offers a variety of opportunities for enrichment and oral work. The goal for certain grammatical functions will be full control rather than partial control. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Honors Spanish III Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. Spanish II( 85 %+)
Description: This course is designed to further develop a student’ s communication skills and cultural appreciation of the Spanish-speaking world. The student will be able to participate in a variety of oral and written activities through reading and writing stories and essays, watching videos in Spanish, and speak Spanish most of the time. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
