Letter from the Executive Director
Message from the Executive Director,
Welcome to the May edition of Wheel World News! Summer is quickly approaching which means there are many upcoming activities and events going on within the community. Be sure to get involved!
This month, our Spotlight Stories are about the new light rail stop, the 50th Street Station, that is now open right in front of Ability360 Center, as well as tips on how to stay cool in your wheelchair this summer. Visit pages 3-4 to read more about these stories. If you are wanting to become more involved this month in the SCI community, there are plenty of events happening this month that could help you with that. Read about all the upcoming events happening this May, including the BIAAZ Annual Rays of Hope Conference and the Independent Living Skills Classes at Ability360 in the Current Events section on pages 5-6. For this month’s “Consumer Corner” segment, we are highlighting Greg Hockensmith, founder of Arizona Lift and Care Specialists, LLC. Read his personal and inspiring story on pages 7-12. Our featured professional for this month in the "Professional Profile" segment is Jim Lynskey with A.T. Still University. Be sure to visit pages 11-12 to read how he contributes to the SCI community.
Also, be sure to read the interview we did with Daniel Gomez, an intern at Ability360 from Mexico. He traveled to America to search for ways to build and improve on his nonprofit organization, Surfeando Sonrisas. Read the interview on pages 13-14.
Our newsletter is for you, our community. We would love to hear how you think we could improve, change, or add to our newsletter. We are interested in anything you would like to share or comment on so please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].
As always, thank you to everyone who supports the Association throughout the year, we truly appreciate each and every one of you! We hope to see you out in the community this month!
