Presenter background: Dr. Shah is a wound care specialist at St. Joe's Advanced Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center in Phoenix. His specialties include Family Practice, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine, Wound Care, and Wound Care Research. Dr. Williams is the Medical Director of Spinal Cord Injury Systems of Care at Barrow Neurological Institute. Her specialties are Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Training Objectives:

-Identify pressure from shearing, friction, and dermatitis related skin ailments.

-Be familiar with prevetion tools

-Understand healing modalities

Topics to be covered: Secondary Conditions to SCI, Prevention, and Care for Pressure Ulcers. Dr. Shah will be talking about identifying. treating and prevention of skin and soft tissue breakdown. Dr. Williams will be talking about the identification and treatment of ulcers and other secondary conditions.

At the end of this class participants will be able to:

-Learn how to identify pressure hot spots.

-Learn how to treat pressure hot spots and where to go for treatments.

-Learn how to prevent pressure sores by doing simples tasks sure as weight shifts, checking for wrinkles in clothes, having a good cushion, etc.
