two more seasons with the women’s basketball
program, and plans to lead by example, following in the footsteps of former team leaders.
“It was intimidating as a freshman coming
in, but I had some upperclassmen who really
stepped into my life and took me under their
wings,” Ellie says. “They pushed me and
challenged me. They were also people who
cared about all of me, not just the basketball
player. That helped make my transition as a
freshman a lot easier.”
For the next two years she hopes to direct her
own focus—and that of her team—to the reason
why they are playing: “to glorify God.”
Coach Madsen says Ellie was selected as a
captain for this upcoming season because she is
highly respected by her teammates.
“She is a person that gives maximum effort,
cares about her teammates, is a great listener,
and a pleasure to be around,” Coach Madsen
says. “The reason I love coaching at Wheaton is
that I am blessed to work with student athletes
like Ellie.”
