Parasites and Your Pets continued from pg 1: • • • Dr. Rai Ko Receives Second Board-Certification depending on patient health and lifestyle factors. A fecal exam is a screening test only. If the test is positive for a parasite, it is important to treat that pet accordingly. However, it is not uncommon to have a negative fecal result in the face of an overwhelming parasitic infection, especially for parasites that only shed their eggs sporadically in the stool. Use of a tick preventative is recommended for pets that hike, hunt or spend a lot of time outdoors, especially in the spring and early summer months. Currently our recommendation is Parastar, Frontline Plus or the use of a tick collar such as Preventic or Seresto. Fleas are usually not a large problem in the Denver area, however, Sentinel Spectrum does contain an inhibiting agent for fleas. Other products such as Parastar, Capstar, Seresto and Frontline Plus are useful.
