If street shopping is your thing, then do walk
the bylanes of Commercial Street, Brigade Road
and Shivajinagar. You can expect to find
interesting bric-a-brac, and unusual clothes and
jewellery at bargain prices.
·
Stop by at MTR on Lalbagh Road and
Vidyarthi Bhavan in Gandhi Bazaar to sample a
crisp, buttery masala dosa and a cup of super-
strong filter coffee. These eateries tend to be
rather crowded, but the wait is definitely
worthwhile.
·

route at Janapada Loka, a folk art museum on
Mysore Road. Round off the tour with a
delicious traditional North Karnataka meal at
Kamat Lokaruchi, set next to the museum.

Cubbon Park, Lalbagh and the Bannerghatta
National Park are the green lungs of Bangalore.
These massive parks are part of the city's
heritage and a must-visit on any tourist
itinerary.
·
Afternoons are well-spent sampling the city's
numerous cafes. Koshy's, India Coffee House

City, Mocha and Café Cofee Day and Barista
outlets.

Mall rats can spend an entire day shopping
and eating at Bangalore's numerous malls –
Garuda, Forum, Mantri Square and Sigma are
some of the popular ones.

HOW THE CITY GOT IT’S NAME
Legend has it that king Veera Ballala, an 11 th
Century Hoysala ruler, lost his way around
the jungle while on a hunting expedition.
Tired and hungry from his wanderings, he
came across a poor and old woman who
offered him a delicious meal of boiled beans.
Touched by her kindness, the ruler
christened the town – 'Benda Kaal Ooru' or
the City of Boiled Beans.
This boiled bean town may have a long way
since Veera Ballala's times. But the DNA of
the city has remained intact with the same
streak hospitality coursing through it even
today. A fact made evident by the scores of
diverse people fro m around India who live
in Bangalore, and feel at home in it.
