Analysis of Global Classrooms Project

By: Aitor Morales Carretero

Global Classrooms is an English subject you can choose to take in 3 ESO at Sampedro. This subject is taught in English, so you will need to make an effort in class if you choose it. It is two hours per week. In this article, I am going to talk about the topic of Global Classrooms.

Global Classrooms is a subject in which the students discuss mainly global situations and world problems. The first things you start learning about are what the UN (United Nations) is and the main things it involves, such as its parts, the countries which form it, the projects it takes on, and its importance in our society. You will be talking about the UN for the whole year if you take this option in 3 ESO.

Here, on the right, is the emblem for the UN: the Earth, and its countries in white, and the rest in sky-blue, except for two white olive branches, which surround the globe.

After much work some will be told, in class, they are going to The General Assembly in Madrid. Unfortunately, not everyone can go because more and more schools are now doing this subject and it has become a very big project. Until the date you go to the conference you all have to do a lot of work, mainly on research, as you will be representing a country of the world at the conference . Even if you don't go, you learn the same important skills. The country will be given to you by the teachers and you will work in pairs, so you can start thinking of someone who you would like to work with, but working seriously, when you meet with your classmates. Each year, there is a topic to discuss which changes year after year. For example, some topics can be about fresh water in the world, another can be sport events in the world, another can be diseases in the world, but only two topics are debated per year.
