FESTIVAL:
If you are not interested in competing in the Ski to Sea race, come out and watch the competitor’s race against each other. The Ski to Sea race also includes a community block party, Junior Ski to Sea Race, and a hometown parade. Every year there are over 50,000 spectators that come out to cheer on these racers and enjoy the festivity of the event. The race itself only has about 3,500 competitors. These racers need your support as the battle for the title of the Ski to Sea champion.
Come to the Boundary Bay Brewery on Friday, May 24th from 5-9 pm to enjoy a pre-race Ski to Sea party. Anyone from all ages can come enjoy the music, dancing, and delicious food. Not only is there great entertainment and food, but just for showing up to the party you will receive an official 2013 Ski to Sea beer glass! The best part of this party is that it is completely free and will feature live music, beer garden, cupcake challenge, and a costume contest. Come on out and show your support for the Ski to Sea race!
To continue with the weekend festivities, the Ski to Sea Grand Parade will be held on Saturday, May25th from 10am - 4pm. This parade allows the community to come together to display the talent and creativity of people of all ages. Last year the parade had more than a hundred entries. What will this year bring? Come on out and see what this community has to offer.
One of the most important features that the community tries to focus on is the kids and a family friendly atmosphere. The weekend before the Ski to Sea race, children who are at least in the 3rd grade or older can participate in the Junior Ski to Sea race. The junior race is a relay race that consists of six members to complete a series of five activities. The five legs of the junior race includes: running, three-legged race, biking, soccer, and an obstacle course. This year’s Junior Ski to Sea race will be held on Saturday, May 18.
