"Chasing that dream"

What’s up?
When I qualified, I really thought I had the power to change the auditing world,
Pursued Gandhi's advice, which was, be the change you want to see in the world.
Then, every day was a new challenge, inspiring my team to move with me,
They did see my vision and they did fight along with me.
We moved with purpose, inspiring confidence in each new member,
Sharing a motto, the tough get going when the going gets tougher.
Kept pushing people to reach beyond their limits, which they did for me.
The future looked so bright with a few great leaders providing the light,
Never dreamt that, to hold on to ideals, every day I would have to fight.
Now, thanks to frauds and mismanagement, audits just seem pointless,
Documentation has become more important than doing that extra procedure.
Regulators and many others have found a scapegoat, even if it's aimless.
Wonder if we have become the square peg in a round hole,
Now, hoping that NOCLAR will improve the auditor's role.
Did a few things to inspire and influence authorities, without success,
To prove to them that public interest determines, both our success.
I have not lost hope, but keep chasing that elusive dream,
But the more I look around, pray that I don't get infected with boredom.
I did not stop to throw stones at every dog that barked enroute,
Yet, the world wants me to change, but for them it's still a dream.
God knows that I'm growing old and one day lose my passion.
Until that D day, join me in chasing after my dream,
To change the auditing world to put public interest first.
