My School Norway Why do students drop out of high school? By Silje According to a research conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, as much as one third of all students drop out of high school. The main question today is why so many choose not to complete their years at high school. In addition to learning, school is also supposed to be a place for making lifelong friendships. There can be many reasons for why students choose to drop out of high school, but the chief reason are most probably family problems. Research has shown that parents are the most important factor for a child to be successful at school. Children need their parents for both motivation and inspiration. Therefore, students who do not get support from their parents will be unmotivated and not willing to complete high school. The lack of support can be a result of parents with alcoholic problems, drug problems or violence at home. Another important reason for why students drop out of school are school problems, such as bullying and bad grades. Firstly, students who experience bullying can develop psychological problems and fear when it comes to showing up at school. Secondly, bad grades can create unmotivated students and trouble with fitting in among other students at school. Therefore, school problems can lead to students dropping out of school. We have all been young once and experienced the love of adventure. Young people are often curious and want to do other things than working out problems in arithmetic. Love of adventure is the last chief reason for why students drop out of high school. They want to see the rest of the big, beautiful world instead of doing homework and going to the same place day after day. This curiousness can motivate students to drop out of school to experience new adventures. Most of us know how difficult it can be to be a teenager and a student at high school. As a result of family problems, school problems or love of adventure, or maybe all of these factors at the very same time, students choose not to finish high school. This is a growing problem and we have to find a solution, which makes students look forward to going to school. Sch ool is supposed to be a place for learning, a place for making lifelong friendships and a place where all students are having a great time. Sources: Students dropping out of high school.
