George Papanikolaou born in Kimi Evia,
studied medicine at the University of
Athens and in 1907 went to Germany
where he studied biology under teachers
Chaikel and Weissman . Then enrolled at
the University of Munich where he began
biological surveys of the “definition of sex
” in shellfish under Professor Richard
Ertvich . After his nomination doctorate at
the University moved to Athens in 1910
where he married Andromache
Blackbeard and then went stoMonako
where he worked at the Oceanographic
Institute of the Principality participating in
group oceanographic exploration of the
Prince of Monaco ( 1911 ) .
