Food SWEDEN Borrowed Dish by Simon TACOS: So many European countries are very familiar with the dish tacos, the tortilla-bread rolled with different ingredients in it, but here in Sweden, it is very popular to eat it on Fridays! Tacos came to Sweden many years ago and it is not like the tacos from Mexico! Swedish tacos have meat, vegetables, spicy sauses and they are oftenly very big. The Swedish Tacos are probably mostly inspired by the tex.mex “Burrito” from the southern part of the USA. The Swedish term “tacomys” means that a group of any kind gets together, cooks tacos and eat them in peace. Swedens most popular brand of taco ingredients is called “Santa Maria Tex-Mex”. Sweden has invented a recipe called taco pie which is, well a pie made of taco ingredients, very clever! The differences between Swedish tacos and the Mexican tacos is the size and the taste, the Mexican tacos are much smaller, and the taste is so much spicier, fresher and has original spices and ways of preparing it. Another borrowed dish that is popular here in Sweden is kebab. Kebab comes from Anatolia in Turkey, where there is a long tradition of serving grilled meats along with bread. In Sweden “kebab” usually means a type of fast food with pita bread or a thin flatbread filled with kebab, onion, peperoni, salad and sauce. Even pickled vegetables and chopped herbs can occur. Another common variant is the kebab plate, where the meat is served with salad, onion, sauces and fries. Kebab roll is a bigger kebab that is surrounded by a rolled-up pizza base or a flatbread roll. Kebab meat is used as a filling for certain types of pizza and kebab pizza has become popular.
