Venice

It is the first town in the region in terms of population and area. The City of Venice
includes both mainland and island territories and it is articulated around two distinct
centers of Venice (at the center of the lagoon) and Mestre (on the mainland). The city of
Venice has been for more than a millennium capital of the Republic of Venice, known as
the Most Serene Dominant and Queen of the Adriatic. For urban characteristics and to
its artistic heritage, Venice is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in
the world and is considered, with its lagoon, one of the UNESCO world heritage: this
factor has contributed to make the second Italian city (after Rome), with the highest
flow of tourists, mostly from outside Italy.
The monuments of the city of Venice
are found in the historic center and
in the islands of the lagoon.
Piazza San Marco
The most famous of Venice’s Piazza
San Marco. the other squares are in
fact called “fields” or “squares”. The
Basilica of San Marco is located in
the center of the square, goldcolored and covered with mosaics
that tell the history of Venice.
The Campanile of San Marco
The Ducal Palace is located next to the Basilica. The main entrance is on the side facing
the lagoon. It was the seat of the Venetian government, the palace is now a museum.
The towers of the Arsenal
In front of the Palazzo Ducale is the bell tower of San Marco, built as a lighthouse for
sailors. Collapsed in 1902 and was completely rebuilt.
Venice is also famous for its historic cafés, imported from the Ottoman Empire. In
Venice, home to the Peggy Guggenheim museum sought, where you’ll find great works
of artists such as Ernst, Modigliani, Picasso, Miro, Pollock and Kandinsky.
