The Sunshine Coast has
some stunning parks, but
only one that is listed in the
Qld Heritage Register.
Cotton Tree Caravan Park
has been around for
decades, in fact about 13
decades. In the 1880’s the
land was used as an
informal camp ground, but
by 1896 the Salvation Army
held a camp there for 200
people, and the formal
park began.
Obviously the park has
changed a lot since then.
For one thing there are
on-site cabins, marked
powered and unpowered
sites, modern amenities –
as you would expect.
But what hasn’t changed
is the fantastic bit of land
that Cotton Tree is on. They
have the ocean on one
boundary and the Maroochy
River on the other. And it
still has Cotton Trees.
Tania and Macca called
into the park over
Christmas and met
Veronica Scougall.
